Meersburg
In unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zu Konstanz, nur durch den etwa 4 km breiten Überlinger See getrennt und leicht mit der Fähre zu erreichen, liegt Meersburg, ein weiteres Highlight in der Bodenseeregion. Die sehenswerte Altstadt rund um die alte Burg und das Neue Schloss mit ihren Gassen und Plätzen, Fachwerkhäusern und gemütlichen Cafés ist einer der Anziehungspunkte schlechthin und dementsprechend gut besucht.
In the immediate vicinity of Constance, separated only by a 4 km wide part of lake Constance called Überlinger See and easy to reach with the car-ferry, Meersburg is another highlight on the shores of Lake Constance. The old town built around the old and new castle with narrow alleys, timbered houses and cozy cafés is one of the main attractions in this area.
Ungefähr 15 Minuten dauert die Überfahrt mit der Autofähre von Konstanz nach Meersburg, die - je nach Wetterlage - schon alleine eine Reise wert ist.
The crossing from Constance takes about 15 minutes and is worth a visit on its own - depending on the weather conditions.
Etwa 40 Höhenmeter sind zu überwinden, um von der Unterstadt am Seeufer über die steile Steigstraße zur alten Burg in der Oberstadt zu gelangen. Das Bärenbrünnle, einer von ehemals 9 Brunnen in der Altstadt, liegt etwa auf halber Höhe, direkt unterhalb der imposanten Burgmauern.
Our walk through the old town of Meersburg starts at 'Steigstraße', a steep alley which is connecting the lakeshore and the upper part of the town around the old castle. About halfway up the road just below the impressive castle the 'bear' fountain is situated, one of formerly 9 fountains in the Middle Ages.
Am Marktplatz mit dem um 1300 erbauten Obertor hat man das obere Ende der Altstadt erreicht. Hier kann man sich schon mal das eine oder andere Getränk gönnen und das Ambiente auf sich wirken lassen. Besonders kunstvoll sind die Blumenarrangements, die sich an Fronleichnam durch Gassen der Oberstadt ziehen.
The Upper Gate built in the 13th century indicates that we have reached the upper end of the old town, time to stop for a drink and enjoy the scenery in one of the nice cafes around the market place. Particularly elaborate: the flower arrangements at Corpus Christi which decorate the alleys of the upper town.
Weiter geht es dann durch das Rathaus hindurch zum Neuen Schloss, der Barockresidenz in der die Fürstbischöfe von Konstanz bereits im 18. Jahrhundert zu feiern wußten. Kein Wunder bei der Aussicht...
Passing the town-hall the next stop is at the 'New Castle', a baroque palace where the prince-bishops of Constance used to celebrate already in the 18th century - not surprising at a place with such a panorama.
